Prior to becoming a principal at Clayton & Associates Paul worked for a retained executive search and management consulting firm that specializes in serving the Finance, Real Estate, Construction, and Hospitality industries. As a Director, Paul Clayton was responsible for recruiting in the areas of construction and real estate and also played a role in client development. His job entailed business development and managing a creative search process and training new employees. He oversaw projects from inception through completion including the search strategy, interviews, referencing, candidate analysis, compensation negotiation and closure.
Mr. Clayton started with the firm in October 2004 and was promoted to Senior Associate in less than a year then to Director based on his performance.
Prior to joining this employer, Mr. Clayton was in the Marines for four years serving most of his time overseas, including a tour in the Middle East, assisting other countries in training their armed forces.
Mr. Clayton received several medals for outstanding service and good conduct during his military career. At the end of his tenure he became a recruiter, where he was credited with increasing the unit’s overall quota. He received meritorious promotions after achieving several goals, including being named recruiter of the year.
After leaving the Marine Corps he was recruited to work with a staffing firm which was a provider of strategic staffing and managed services for Light Technical, Light Industrial, Office, Manufacturing, Civil and Environmental Engineering Fields. He started in the staffingindustry in 1997 as a Recruiter and advanced to the position of Regional Recruiter, where he was responsible for mass hiring with large accounts in excess of 1,000 positions. He was promoted to On Premise Recruiter, where he set up an office training other Recruiters and hiring internal candidates to meet the specific needs of clients.
He then advanced to the position of Military Coordinator for a division of the company, a job that entailed attending transitioning assistance classes on military installations in several regions. He recruited officers and enlisted personnel to the firm. While still with the company, he transferred to Pittsburgh and moved through the ranks in that office from Recruiter to Senior Recruiter and finally to Recruiting Manager. In that role he oversaw all Recruiters in the Pittsburgh office and handled account development for existing accounts. He still holds the sales record for a Recruiter in the firm’s Pittsburgh office and was the first Recruiter to win the quarterly contest based on sales volume.
In 2003, Mr. Clayton went to a retained executive search and management consulting firm specializing exclusively in the construction, real estate development and facilities management industries. The firm specialized in senior level construction trades and matching clients with general contractors, developers, high-end residential construction, and construction management firms. He advanced from recruiter to a role in business development, working in high-end residential construction servicing major markets including New York and California.
Paul also serves as a board member for the eastern region of REIAC, the Real Estate Investment Advisory Council
