biography
Bill Heyman is the Founder, President and CEO of Heyman Associates. He manages senior-level searches for blue-chip and emerging companies, leading public relations firms, nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
Bill is active in several industry organizations, including serving as a trustee of the Institute for Public Relations (IPR), is a frequent judge in public relations awards programs, and often serves as a panelist and speaker at professional organizations, such as the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), and the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI).
PRWeek recognized Bill as a “supporting power player” in its 2007 PR Power List. “In an industry where talent is everything, Heyman helps connect some of the most senior pros to jobs, making him an indispensable asset to all involved in executive searches.”
He is also an inaugural member of the advisory board for The Plank Center for Leadership in Relations in the College of Communication & Information Sciences at the University of Alabama. Further, in conjunction with the University of Alabama, Bill initiated a groundbreaking study that reveals the factors of success in the field of communications. The study is one of the few to probe this issue in regard to public relations and is perhaps the first to conduct the research from the perspective of the industry’s leaders. Bill co-authored a paper based on this study, which was published in the inaugural issue of the International Journal of Strategic Communications. In 2005, the International Communication Association had honored the paper with the “Robert L. Heath Top Paper Award.”
Bill is also a member of the Advisory Council of the Department of Communication at the College of Charleston.
In the spring of 2001, Bill was named to the board of THE LAGRANT FOUNDATION, a Los Angeles-based organization that awards scholarships to minority students planning to major and pursue a career in public relations.
Additionally, he is a member of the Partnership for New York City, a nonprofit organization that works to enhance the economy of the five boroughs of New York City and maintain the city’s position as the center of world commerce, finance and innovation.
Recently, Bill was quoted in “The Likeability Factor: How to Boost Your Likeability Factor and Achieve Your Life’s Dreams” by Tim Sanders.
Prior to entering the executive search field in 1982, Bill served as Director of Public Relations and Development for Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown Heights, NY. He later volunteered as a member of its Board of Directors. He continues to serve his community as a member of the Board of Managers at the YMCA in Glen Cove, NY.
A graduate of Gettysburg College, Bill recently served as Chairman of the school’s Marketing Committee of the National Campaign Steering Committee and was a member of the Board of Fellows. In June 2005 he was the recipient of the Gettysburg Meritorious Service award. He earned an MBA from Adelphi University.
