biography
Telecom Connections was founded in 1997 by George H. Orr, SPHR, the company’s president. George has been working in wireless telecommunications for more than thirty years. He has held senior executive positions with a number of wireless telecommunications firms throughout the US.
Prior to founding Telecom Connections, George had served in an executive capacity with American Paging, Inc. for more than eight years where he was Vice President of Human Resources and Director of Management Development for the company’s operations throughout the United States. George recruited board members, senior level executives, middle managers and engineers to the company and also provided human resources leadership for more than ten acquisitions and divestitures.
In addition to his human resources experience, George has served at the vice president level in marketing, sales and operations functions for several regional wireless operating companies over a period of twenty years. In these roles he has managed large, multi-city teams, consisting of hundreds of sales, customer service and technical/engineering employees. George was often recognized for his accomplishments in leading these companies through very high growth periods in the cellular telephone, mobile radio and messaging businesses. George himself founded a start-up wireless communications firm in Texas and served as president of that company from its early stages through the acquisition of the company and several acquisitions thereafter.
During his career, George has written, produced and delivered training programs for many employees in the wireless industry. He has published articles related to the wireless business in industry trade publications and has coordinated and presented workshops and seminars at various industry trade conferences related to recruitment and retention of employees. George has also consulted with telecom and high-tech companies in specialized areas of human resources. He also has served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Texas in Human Resources Management.
Prior to commencing his career in commercial telecom, George had served as a captain in the U. S. Air Force Communications Service for five years in various posts in the USA and Japan. For his work in the reversion of Okinawan telecommunications facilities back to Japanese control George was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal.
George is an active member of the Society for Human Resources Management and has served as an executive officer of the Austin Human Resources Management Association. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). In addition to a BA degree in Philosophy and Sociology, George possesses an MS degree in Management.
